  George denies being rapped by PM: China row
Defence Minister George Fernandes has denied that he was pulled up by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for his views on China as "the biggest threat to India." "I don't, and it's Prime Minister's discretion to decide on the issue", he said when asked if he apprehended his being shifted to some other ministry in the wake of the disquiet his statements on the issue has caused in the Government.
  Adamant Naik faces the axe
High-profile Shiv Sena leader from Navi Mumbai and State Cabinet Minister for Forests and Environment, Ganesh Naik, continued to defy the diktat of Chief Minister Manohar Joshi and refused to resign his post. Indications are that if the rebellious minister does not quit on his own by today, the Chief Minister will be left with no option but to summarily dismiss him.

Khurana to file suit against CBI
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana yesterday said he was thinking of suing the CBI, which had booked him in the Hawala case three years ago, for compensation of "mental torture and humiliation". Khurana, who resigned as Delhi chief minister after he was chargesheeted in the case, was discharged by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.
DMK ouster needed to contain ISI: Jaya
AIADMK chief Jayalalitha on Thursday reiterated her demand for the dismissal of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu for effectively checking the `growing activities' of extremists and to `contain the conspiracy of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) wing' in Tamil Nadu. She said the dismissal of the Karunanidhi government would also help `put down' the extremists under the direct administration of the central government.

No need to privatise coal sector: Ray
Union Minister of State for Coal Dilip Ray has opposed the privatisation of the coal sector and asserted that the Coal India (CIL) was capable enough to meet the present demand of coal. The earlier decision to allow privatisation in the coal sector was based on a wrong presumption that there would be a shortfall of 60 million tonnes in supply of coal by the end of the Ninth Plan and by the end of 10th Plan it would reach 135 million tonnes, Ray said.
