Sukh Ram quits: turns up with a fresh demand
Ending a week-long uncertainty, Himachal Pradesh Minister for Public Works and Power Sukh Ram resigned on Thursday saying his party, the Himachal Vikas Congress, would continue to support the BJP government. While this was good news for the BJP, there's a catch: Sukh Ram said the HVC would review the decision of support if the state government did not recommend a CBI probe against former chief minister and his rival Virbhadra Singh.

Government may trim quota to see Women's Bill through
In order to arrive at a consensus on the Women's Bill, the government is considering the option of scaling down the reservation quota from 33 per cent. Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is to hold separate meetings with leaders of Opposition parties on May 14 and 15 to discuss the coming Budget session, specifically to hammer out a consensus on five important Bills the government is keen to see passed.

Adamant Naik faces the axe
High-profile Shiv Sena leader from Navi Mumbai and State Cabinet Minister for Forests and Environment, Ganesh Naik, continued to defy the diktat of Chief Minister Manohar Joshi and refused to resign his post. Indications are that if the rebellious minister does not quit on his own by today, the Chief Minister will be left with no option but to summarily dismiss him.
