The honourable minister for Information & Broadcasting, Sushma Swaraj, was in the unlikely position of becoming the unanimous champion of show business when she declared that the government has decided to grant industry status for the film trade. It is a move that is enlightened, farsighted, and one which will have long-term consequences for a business which employs more than a million individuals in the country today.
Junoon to romance Delhi with spirit of passion
Pakistan's rock-and-Sufi pop band Junoon is all set to swing the blues away in New Delhi on Monday night. Song writer Salman Ahmad with designer chappals and bass-player Brian O'Connell in a flowing purple kurta look well-ensconced in their hotel room, but the prince-of-wails, lead singer Ali Azmat, is down with fever. No matter though, his band-mates assure that, "the life of the party" will be fighting fit by the time they hit stage.

Culture of silence and subjugation
During her press conference they asked Zeenat Aman why did she stay so long if she was beaten? Victims of domestic abuse are often asked this. Had she left early in her violent marriage, they would ask why she left so soon! In other words, for victims, `Do you are damned -- don't you are damned'. They are Mumbai's new cultural keepers and are prone to stripping people and ransacking their houses for disobedience. They have barred Mumbaiites from kissing in public, they have thrown out chairs shaped like females from Bistro Bar and are all set to prevent Madhuri Dixit from acting in a film to be directed by painter M F Husain.

All about nothing
In one of the longest and most extensively publicised good-byes in television history, the final Seinfeld show was broadcast to an audience estimated at up to 80 million people. The 75-minute show, whose plot was cloaked in secrecy during the preceding weeks of tidal-wave media coverage, ended the ninth Seinfeld season at the peak of the show's popularity.

Warhol's Marilyn -- Andy Warhol's Orange Marilyn fetched $17.3 million at a Sotheby's auction in New York, four times the highest sum ever paid for a work by the pop art master. The 1964 portrait of US movie star Marilyn Monroe, done from a photo taken during filming of Niagara, is set against an orange background.
