  Sampras falls to Chang, clay
Michael Chang sent world number one Pete Sampras tumbling out of the Italian Open in the third round on Thursday while Marcelo Rios gave another awesome display of his abilities to dispatch Thomas Muster in less than an hour. Chang triumphed, 6-2, 7-6 clinching the match 8-6 in a thrilling tie-break as top-seed Sampras once again struggled to adapt his game to Rome's red clay courts.
  Jansher ready to play in any city
Eight time World squash champion Jansher Khan has said that he is ready to participate in the forthcoming World Cup Squash Championship in any Indian city irrespective of threats raised against him. He also reiterated that he was not concerned with politics and would play in India.

Liebenberg, Kallis start series with a bang
Opener Gerhardus Liebenberg and Jacques Kallis put on 162 against Worcestershire as South Africa launched their tour of England impressively. Liebenberg (98), Kallis (75) and Daryll Cullinan (67 not out) spurred the South Africans to 287 for four declared on the first day of their three-day match.
Zola sends reminder to Maldini with 18-second performance
It took Gianfranco Zola 18 seconds to win the Cup Winners Cup for Chelsea. Now he wants Italian coach Cesare Maldini to put him back on the World Cup squad. "I'll be waiting for a phone call," Zola said after his 71st minute strike earned a 1-0 victory for Chelsea over Germany's VFB Stuttgart in Stockholm Wednesday night.

Sandip Kaur leads India at hockey World Cup
A 16-member Indian women hockey team led by full-back Sandip Kaur left New Delhi early Friday morning for Utrecht to take part in the 9th World Cup. The team is being accopanied by five officials. In the 12 nation Women's World Cup, India is placed in the tough pool `B' along with Argentina, England, Korea, Holland and New Zealand.
