  India has not misled US: Jaswant
The Indian government on Monday lashed out at US officials for accusing India of being "duplicitous" and saying they had been "seriously misled" by India on the conduct of its five nuclear tests last week. A key aide of the PM who was closely involved in the planning of last week's tests, Jaswant Singh, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission led the rebuttal, saying he would not respond to the language of US spokesmen which was used "more out of frustration than out of reason."
  PM rules out snap polls
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Monday firmly ruled out mid-term elections to the Lok Sabha to tap the goodwill generated by the nuclear tests saying there was no question of BJP taking advantage of the "national achievement." "There is no truth in reports that the government will order a mid-term poll and there is no question of BJP taking advantage of this achievement for its political benefit," he said.

George defends position on China
Union defence minister George Fernandes has asserted that he had never said China was enemy number one. "I had merely said in my perception of national threat China was number one," said Fernandes on his first visit to Mumbai after taking oath as Defence Minister.

BJP abandons gaurav yatras
The Bharatiya Janata Party has shelved its plan to undertake gaurav yatras from Pokhran while the Vishwa Hindu Parishad is going to construct a shakti-peeth in the vicinity of the nuclear blasts site. The BJP earlier planned to take out gaurav yatras from Pokhran carrying the sacred soil of the area and present it to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and nuclear scientists who had done the country proud by their feat.
Sack Abdullah, demands Panthers Party
The Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party president Bhim Singh has asked the Centre to dismiss Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah. He accused Abdullah of being America's "agent" and said the peace process in the state had suffered after he took charge.
