  PM rules out snap polls
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on Monday firmly ruled out mid-term elections to the Lok Sabha to tap the goodwill generated by the nuclear tests saying there was no question of BJP taking advantage of the "national achievement." "There is no truth in reports that the government will order a mid-term poll and there is no question of BJP taking advantage of this achievement for its political benefit," he said.
  BJP abandons gaurav yatras
The Bharatiya Janata Party has shelved its plan to undertake gaurav yatras from Pokhran while the Vishwa Hindu Parishad is going to construct a shakti-peeth in the vicinity of the nuclear blasts site. The BJP earlier planned to take out gaurav yatras from Pokhran carrying the sacred soil of the area and present it to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and nuclear scientists who had done the country proud by their feat.

Laloo forcing alliance: Cong
Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) chief Sarfaraz Ahmed has said that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Laloo Prasad Yadav was trying to "force an alliance" on the party for contesting the by-elections to seven assembly seats slated for June 3. BPCC chief alleged the RJD supremo was spreading the "canard" that the party had left the Sheikhpura seat for the Congress.

The Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party president Bhim Singh has asked the Centre to dismiss Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah. He accused Abdullah of being America's "agent" and said the peace process in the state had suffered after he took charge.

Senior Mahanta cabinet minister quits
Senior Assam Minister, Atul Bora, has resigned from his post after alleging that he was insulted in the recent cabinet reshuffle by changing his portfolio from PWD to Forest. Regarded as number two in the cabinet, Bora told a press conference at his official residence in Dispur that he had sent his resignation letter to the Chief Minister, PK Mahanta. He demanded change in the leadership of Mahanta.
Biswal seeks age limit for Cong party posts
Orissa's Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Basanta Kumar Biswal has suggested that an age limit should be prescribed for holding various posts within the party. "When an age limit exists for holding positions in government offices, courts of law and other constitutional posts, there is no reason why it should not apply to political parties," Biswal said.
