  Soren remanded to custody, CBI submits status report on probe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted the status report of its investigations in trying to trace Sashi Nath Jha, missing secretary of former Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Member of Parliament Shibu Soren to the Delhi High Court. The CBI, had arrested Shibu Soren on Wednesday in connection with the case and claimed that Sashi Nath Jha may have been abducted and probably killed because he had `sufficient' knowledge about the MPs bribery deal.
  Bansi Lal's daughter held for slapping DM
Sumitra, daughter of Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal, was remanded to judicial custody till June 4 by the local court for allegedly slapping city magistrate Renu Phulia and tehsildar Lal on Wednesday night.

Prasar Bharati will be independent: Swaraj
The Bharatiya Janata Party will not have any role in the functioning of the Prasar Bharati and there will be no interference in its editorial functioning, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Thursday. Swaraj said the Prasar Bharati Bill to be introduced in the budget session of Parliament, will be free of governmental shackles. The government has no intention of appointing any hard core BJP/RSS member as the CEO of the corporation.

A tough-talking Union Home Minister L K Advani threatening to take on Pakistan for fuelling terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir has triggered -- though not entirely unwittingly -- swift changes in the power equation within the Central Government. A case in point is the all-important J&K cell which -- for the record -- still functions under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). But that's only for the record.

George witnesses Naval exercises on high seas
Union Defence Minister George Fernandes told officers and men of the Indian navy that the country had many challenges before it, some of which had been thrown at it by the nuclear powers and by neighbours, in the wake of India's nuclear tests. He was addressing naval personnel on the high seas after witnessing naval exercises held in the Arabia Sea on Monday and Tuesday.

The sanctions imposed by the United States against India in the wake the nuclear blasts at Pokharan would have no adverse effect on developmental projects in Punjab. The State Government is confident that its foreign-funded projects would carry on smoothly since these were finalised much before the blasts and that the funds from the World Bank had already been released.
