Phukan, Bora set to dislodge Mahanta
The campaign within the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) to dislodge Chief Minister and party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has gained momentum, with former home minister Bhrigu Kumar Phukan extending support to party general secretary Atul Bora on Thursday. Phukan, who was away in Delhi rushed to Guwahati and had a long closed-door discussion with Atul Bora, following which he announced his decision to join the new Mahanta-hatao campaign.

TMC against merger with Cong in present context
The Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) is the real Congress in Tamil Nadu, G K Moopanar said on Thursday but added that party acknowledged Sonia Gandhi's leadership of Congress at the all-India level. If there was any opportunity for Sonia to become Prime Minister, the TMC would support such a move, the party chief said.

Mayawati, Arif arrest foils gherao of Raj Bhawan
The `Raj Bhawan March' of the BSP was foiled yesterday with the police arresting former chief minister and party MP Mayawati, party MP Arif Mohammed Khan and over 1,000 party activists in the morning. BSP workers were not allowed to enter Lucknow following heavy barricading. A red alert was sounded by the government in the state.

All-party meeting to discuss poll reforms
As part of its ongoing attempt to arrive at a consensus on the contentious issue of electoral reforms, the BJP-led Government will hold an all-party meeting tomorrow. While the Government would be represented by Home Minister L K Advani, who is scheduled to chair the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana and Law Minister M Thambi Durai, invitations have been sent to 65 leaders of various political parties.
