Bomb hoax traced to Wing Cdr

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 24: A retired Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force is facing legal action after the Dhaula Kuan police traced a hoax bomb call to him last evening.

Though he has not been arrested, the police have started an investigation into his conduct and will seek the court's permission to prosecute him tomorrow.

According to a senior police official, the former Air Force officer, Jagdish Kumar, called up the control room to say that a bomb had been planted inside the club at the Defence Services Officer's Institute.

The police and the bomb disposal squad reached the spot immediately. A thorough search of the club and surrounding areas, however, revealed nothing untoward.

Further investigations reportedly revealed that the call was made from Karnataka restaurant which is adjacent to the club. It was also found that Kumar frequented the restaurant after playing tennis at the club. Yesterday, soon after he left the club, he allegedly went to the restaurant and made the hoax call about spotting a bomb.

When the police spoke to Kumar today, he reportedly said that ``he did it for safety reasons'' and wanted to attract the police's attention towards the security problem at the club.

The police, however, say that they are not impressed with Kumar's excuses. ``We have found that Kumar was aggrieved over the lack of sufficient facilities at the club. He often entered into arguments with the management. It is quite likely that he was trying to get even with them,'' said a police official.
