Notice to labour commissioner on workers plea

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, May 24: The High Court has issued notices to the city chief labour commissioner and commissioner workmen's compensation on a petition seeking compensation to a worker from an industry where he had lost five fingers in an accident in February 1993. Justice Cyriac Joseph has issued the notices, returnable by July 9, after the petitioner Santosh Kumar alleged that the commissioner workmen's compensation was yet to recover the damage amount from Saraswati Plastic Udyog (SPU) in South Delhi which failed to comply with its order.

Workmen's compensation commissioner had on February 27 imposed a compensation of Rs 84,500 on SPU and also allowed six per cent interest from the date of the accident till the date of payment. He said the compensation would be recovered as land revenue from SPU if it failed to deposit the money within 30 days.
