  Anti-Nuke Baluchis hijack Pak plane
A Pakistan International Airlines passenger aircraft was hijacked yesterday by Balochistan nationalists but the plane was intercepted by a Pakistan air force jet and forced to land in Hyderabad, Sindh. The Fokker F-27 (PIA 554) flight from Gwadar in the Balochistan coastal belt to Karachi was carrying 24 passengers and 5 crew members.
  Kashmir taken, Advani eyes N-E
Having crossed Kashmir in one giant sweep, Union Home Minister LK Advani is all set to make North-East his next stopover. And once again, though not surprisingly, he has decided to lock horns with the numerous insurgent groups in the region. Advani has called a meeting of all the Chief Ministers of the North-East states to tackle the problem of growing insurgency.

Pak may get F-16s by early next week
The United States is gearing up to return the first Pakistani F-16s, perhaps as early as next week, even before repelling the Pressler Amendment, according to Congressional sources. The Clinton administration is reportedly examining whether a national interest waiver is possible to allow the 28 planes to move in batches of one and two while the Congress is in recess.
Now, Kalam targets space with Hyperplane
Senior scientists call it Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief and scientific advisor to the Union Defence Minister A P J Abdul Kalam's dream project. The "Single-Stage-to-Orbit Launch Vehicle" or the "Hyperplane" -- as the new concept for flight to orbit is called -- will soon become a reality.

SAARC to slash telecom tariff
The first meeting of communication ministers of SAARC countries concluded in Colombo on Sunday with an unanimous agreement to lower telecommunication tariffs in the region. The conference also agreed to complete digitalisation of the inter-country telecommunication infrastructure by December 1999, allocate sufficient band-width for regional telecom links and establish an intra-regional high bandwidth hub for leased lines.
Sterlite jacks up Indal offer price to Rs 221
In a swift and strategic move, Sterlite Industries has hiked the offer price for the shares of Rs 1,200 crore Indian Aluminium (Indal) from Rs 115 to Rs 221 per share. The Sterlite offer came late in the night after Alcan Aluminium of Canada hiked the offer price from Rs 120 to Rs 175 per Indal share.
