NCW to submit report on rape cases
The Rajasthan Government was yesterday pulled up by the National Commission for Women (NCW) for the unchecked, repeated incidents of rapes and other heinous crimes against women in the state. NCW Chairperson Mohini Giri said the Commission would study various aspects of issues concerning women and submit a report to the Home Minister in a month's time on the situation of women in Rajasthan.

Baskin Robbins outlet in Ahmedabad burnt
Even as fundamendalist organisations deny any hand in the burning of Pepsi and Coke trucks, the fire seems to have spread. In the biggest incident of its kind so far, a Baskin Robbins ice-cream parlour in Navrangpura was completely burned down by some unidentified youths shouting anti-MNC slogans.

WB to provide more funds for health project
Notwithstanding the economic sanctions imposed on India by the Clinton administration, the World Bank has decided to provide more funds to the Shiv Sena-BJP Government's rural health project. Disclosing this at a high-level meeting at Mantralaya, World Bank nominee Taheer Namaz informed Health Minister Daulatrao Aher that the sanctions imposed by some of the countries would not have any adverse impact on the rural health project.

No respite from the sun as death toll goes up to 223
With 48 more deaths reported during the past 24 hours, the national toll due to sunstroke this summer has gone up to 223. Twenty-five people have died in Orissa while Rajasthan accounted for 20 more deaths to the 106 toll earlier.
