Vajpayee's spin doctors make major capitals their destination
In an effort to stem growing worldwide condemnation about its nuclear status, the Government has fielded principal secretary Brajesh Mishra to underline New Delhi's new credentials with its remaining allies, France and Russia. Mishra flew to Paris over the weekend to seek French President Jacques Chirac's support to avert an anti-Indian resolution at an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council yesterday.

Mamata Banerjee, whose Trinamul Congress has suspended support to the BJP-led coalition government over its failure to do justice to West Bengal in the Rail Budget, has been appointed chairperson of the Lok Sabha standing committee on railways.

Jaswant, Mahajan to take the RS route to Cabinet
The decks are being cleared to bring Jaswant Singh and Pramod Mahajan into the Rajya Sabha with a view to inducting them into the Union Cabinet. The Cabinet expansion which was put off last month is now expected to take place during the three week long recess in the parliamentary session in June.
