In diplomacy, Pakistan always seems streets ahead of India. Within minutes of its nuclear explosions, Pakistan had dispatched a team of suave statesman abroad who were in Washington even before their second test was conducted. Before testing, Pakistan scripted an elaborate charade that it feared a preemptive strike on its nuclear installations by India and Israel.
Limited overs match
In the glorious tradition of subcontinental cricket, a special two-nation encounter has been organised between India and Pakistan. It is sponsored by, among others, Union Carbide, whose credentials for bringing heart-stopping action to thousands has already been internationally recognised after the Bhopal Gas Extravaganza of December 1984.
"Where is the scope for negotiations on CTBT, with whom will you negotiate?"
Pranab Mukherjee has held almost all important portfolios -- including finance and external affairs -- at the Centre. As the nation debates the impact of the nuclear tests and the BJP Government's maiden Budget, he told this newspaper "The Prime Minister should have put his foot down, no one else had any business to say anything on the subject (nuclear test)."
