MUMBAI, June 9: A 17-year-old girl student who failed in the HSC examinations for the second consecutive time this year leapt off the second floor of her college building at Parel this evening and died.According to the police, the incident took place at around 5 pm, when Trupti Shantaram Lakare jumped from the ladies common room of M D College at Parel.
Seriously injured after falling from a distance of over 40 feet, Trupti was rushed to the nearby KEM Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries after nearly 90 minutes. The body has been sent for post-mortem, the police informed.
According to senior inspector V N Patil of the Bhoiwada police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, Trupti had written on the rear side of her examination slip asking her father and mother to forgive her for her misdeeds.
Trupti's father Shantaram, who works as a technician at M G Hospital, barely 100 meters away from the college, expressed great shock on learning of his daughter's death.
This is thesecond incident in less than 24 hours of a student committing suicide for having failed in the examinations. A 14-year-old girl, Sanam Moshin Khan, jumped from her bedroom at Oshiwara on Monday. She was upset because she had failed her Standard VII exams for the secondtime. Sanam, like Trupti Lakare, left a suicide note for her parents, expressing her wish to donate her eyes after her death.
