Self-employment scheme for the youth in Punjab

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KALJHARANI, June 9: In order to tap the young talent in the state, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal launched a ``self-employment programme'' here today.

Badal, who had come in a different mood, had a unique sangat darshan when he suddenly appealed to the gathering to let the unemployed youth of the village come forward. Badal had a 40-minutes heart to heart dialogue with the energetic, but the idle youth. As per the desires expressed by the youth, Badal, who was accompanied by senior bureaucrats, launched on the spot unnat dairy, poultry and sheep/goat farming schemes. Badal announced that in the first stage, about five animal sheds, each with the capacity of 100, chicken sheds with about 20,000 capacity and sheep/goat sheds would be raised on a part of 50 acre panchayat land.

He instructed the concerned officers to prepare the survey reports and start work on the project by next month. He said the government would bear all the expenses of the project and would later hand over the sheds to the unemployed youth against nominal charges.

Badal said this project modeled on Israeli technique was a demonstration project which would be introduced in every village and town of the state later. He, however, said the teams of experts had already been constituted, which would conduct job-oriented talent surveys all over the state to make the programme a grand success.

Badal said it was impossible to fight with the natural calamities due to which the crop, especially in this particular region, was failing every year ``but the alternatives might be found.''

He said under the self-employment programme, the government would own every responsibility such finances, training medical assistance and marketing facilities.

Later, responding to the demands raised by the villagers, he announced a community center, upgradation of local school from class 8th to 10th, construction of a link road, repair of brick-lined channels and a new branch of co-operative bank in the village. Later, talking to media persons, Badal said he had taken up the issue of lifting of ban on purchase of property for outsiders in Rajasthan. He was hopeful of positive results.

He claimed that the ongoing tug-of-war between FCI and the food agencies of Punjab would be resolved soon and the work of shelling of paddy would be re-started very soon. He said that Thein Dam project would start generating power by September next.
