CHANDIGARH, June 9: Chandigarhians had a reason to rejoice as the pass percentage of the CBSE plus two exam was higher than the previous years. The Chandigarh region which has recorded a pass percentage of 78.5 per cent this year is next only to Allahabad which boasts 79.5 per cent. The pass percentages of Chandigarh in 1996 and 1997 were 72.90 and 75.82 respectively. The government schools in the city have also registered an increase in their pass percentage - from 73.9 per cent last year to 75.4 per cent this year. However, there has been a marginal decline in the pass percentages of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas as compared to last year - from 80.9 per cent to 79.3 per cent; from 83.8 per cent to 83.5 per cent.
The pass percentage of model schools is 82.1 per cent, while that of non-model schools is 65.21 per cent. While GMSSS-35 has topped in the category of model schools with a pass percentage of 97.15 per cent, GMSSS-16 is second with 93.75 per cent and GMSSS-20 is third with 92.5 per cent. Government Girls Senior Secondary School - 18 has topped in the non-model category with 91.26 per cent.
The performance of certain schools in rural areas and colonies is also much better than last year with GSSS, Sector 38 ( West) -71.42 per cent; GSSS, Karsan -62.74 per cent. The joint secretary, CBSE, Y.P Katyal said the candidates placed in the compartment category can submit their applications forms without late fee till July 1. The fee for regular candidates is Rs 150, however after July 1 up to July 11 a fine of Rs 10 per day would be charged and from July 12 till the next 10 days, an additional sum of Rs 100 and a fine of Rs 20 per day would be charged.
In case of the private candidates, the fee is Rs 180 which includes postal charges. In case the forms are submitted upto July 10, a fine of Rs 10 per day will be charged and From July 11 to 20, a sum of Rs 100 plus Rs 20 per day will have to be paid. The examination will be held on August 1.
However, the board has no provision for students to improve their performance in any subject or appear in an additional paper, he added. The students interested in rechecking can do so within a month of the declaration of the result. The board has already despatched the detailed mark sheets, compartment forms, rechecking forms and the date sheet in case of regular candidates and would shortly send the compartment forms for the private candidates.
