State waives interest on drought-hit farmers' loans
Finally waking up to the spate of suicides in the State, the Joshi government has waived interest on loans and also decided to reschedule repayment of loans taken by farmers in the two scarcity-hit regions of Marathwada and Vidarbha. The Chief Minister Manohar Joshi said the government has decided to sign away interest amounting to Rs 42 crore on the aggregate principal amount of Rs 280 crore.

HSC exams register 52 pc success
The overall performance of the State in the Higher Secondary Certificate examination has improved this year and the pass percentage stands at 51.79 compared to 41.58 last year. Of the total 7,72,828 students registered with various colleges in the State, the number of students who actually appeared for the examination stood at 7,44,473. Of these, 19,736 secured distinction while 1,01,552 secured first class.

Oppn cheers as allies make Govt squirm
The BJP-led Government had to face several embarrassing moments yesterday when its allies, the Trinamool Congress and the AIADMK, demanded explanations on the proposed proposed construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. In the Lok Sabha, Mamata Banerjee asked for a categorical assurance from Union Home Minister L K Advani that the Government wasn't doing anything illegal on the issue, the AIADMK went a step further, demanding a white paper.

Opposition parties yesterday dubbed the coalition government's deal with Japanese auto major Suzuki variously as clandestine and corrupt, pseudo-secular, sellout in the name of swadeshi. They alleged that it was negotiated by the Prime Minister's Office bypassing the Industry Ministry in an "absurd bid to soften the rap of Japanese sanctions".
