Jaswant's high-level date on Friday
After weeks of recrimination following India's nuclear tests, there is finally some perceptible movement towards a constructive engagement between Washington and New Delhi. The BJP Government's principal foreign and defence policy spokesman and putative foreign minister Jaswant Singh is expected to have a luncheon meeting with Acting Secretary of State Strobe Talbott in Washington on Friday in what will be the first high-level political engagement between the two sides after the nuclear imbroglio.

China not our enemy No 1, feels Vajpayee
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has said he does not "subscribe" to the view that China is "India's potential enemy no:1" and asserted that New Delhi wanted to set a "firm foundation" for a stable and long term relations with Beijing through dialogue.

Jane's too doubts Pak's N-claims
Nuclear experts have said that Pakistan's nuclear explosions on May 28 observed only one signal measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale casting doubts over premier Nawaz Sharif's claims of having conducted five tests. For the first time detailing the fallout of Islamabad's nuclear tests, Frank Barnaby of the Jane Information Service said the measurements of the explosions indicated that the total explosive yield was only seven to eight kiloton and not 40 to 45 kiloton as claimed by Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.
