The moment of atonement has come
Memories of a December morning are coming back to haunt the Congress as it tries to redefine its existence as an opposition party. When the dome of the mosque came down, so did the chances of the Congress ruling Delhi alone again. Ever. It was the defining point for a great Indian legacy, pushed along by the Dynasty and frittered away by its own follies.

Janpath has other ideas
It has been a thoroughly normal day so far. The sun rose in the east, the wind blew and, yes, lest I forget, Jayalalitha promised serious consequences if the DMK ministry wasn't summarily dismissed. Don't underestimate the AIADMK's potential to shake the Vajpayee government, especially given its wafer-slim majority in the Lok Sabha. But why does Jayalalitha feel compelled to remind the world of the fact with unwearying regularity?

Asia knocking?
The chaos in the capital markets could be a loud message that India's immunity from the Asian flu is a thing of the past. Yet even if it is the world capital markets -- Wall Street and European stock markets have taken a beating alongside Asian ones -- that have immediately told on Indian bourses, there is no absolving the BJP government of having stretched its luck.
