E-Mail can be embarrassment mail on the Internet highway
Embraced for its convenience, E-Mail has become for Internet users the fast and cheap communications medium of the '90s. Its nature lends itself to informal use, complete with misspellings, quirky abbreviations and casual references to friends, co-workers or employers. Trouble is, those casual messages sometimes get misdirected, or they can have long lifespans, hibernating for years on a computer backup in the company's basement. Sometimes, like old soldiers, old E-Mail messages never die.

Seduction comes in many forms. And all its possible permutations were on display when Ricky Martin was introduced to his Indian fans. The press conference, held at Hotel Oberoi in Mumbai yesterday, packed the room with journalists and other assorted types, who gazed spellbound at Martin. Famous for songs like Maria and the official World Cup song La Copa De La Vida (The Cup Of Life), Martin is here as part of his Asian tour.

A face-lift for superstate EU; to be made people-friendly
The European Union, one of the world's greatest bureaucracies, is trying to make itself more relevant to Europeans, who will soon have a single currency, but are said to feel detached from the people who run their super-state. EU leaders have now agreed to fix a problem British politicians have long stressed: the EU's bureaucracy is often viewed as a faceless force that issues edicts, but has little contact with the 370 million who live in the EU.
