Temple tantrums
All this cross-talk, as Hon'ble Speaker Balayogi would have put it, on the Ramjanmabhoomi temple was so confusing that I decided to clarify the issue once and for all with the highest authority in the land -- the Prime Minister himself. Unfortunately, the interview was inconclusive.

The chief minister goes home
On July 27, after Laloo Prasad Yadav had relinquished office and his 39-year-old wife Rabri Devi was sworn in as the first woman chief minister of Bihar, RJD leaders had a problem. How were they to convince the ordinary people that she was worthy of the office? That's when they came up with the image of the wife keeping the household together in the absence of her husband.

The private sector should be brought in to tap, market defence technology
Union defence minister George Fernandes, in an interview with this newspaper, said that some of the country's defence production establishments are working with obsolete machinery. And upgrading them, modernising them will require considerable capital investment. He is of the view that the private sector could be invited with equity participation in some of these units.
