Laxman unveils latest book
Cartoonist R K Laxman yesterday unveiled his latest book. Called 50 years of Independence through the eyes of R K Laxman, the book is a collection of around 250 cartoons reflecting the passage and the trauma of India in the 50 years after Independence.

Mallya buys American newspapers
Owner of the UB group of companies Vijay Mallya, has become the first Indian to buy American newspapers. Mallya will now be the chairman and publisher of Marin Scope, Mill Valley Herald, Ross Valley Reporter, San Rafael News Pointer and Twin Cities Times, all community newspapers in some of the richest counties in California and the United States.

India a much-improved side
India spoiled the Sri Lankan party with an emphatic win yesterday to continue their significant improvement in the one-day game in 1998. The match started with a Sanath Jayasuriya four, but Ajay Jadeja finished it with a six. This typified India's approach to the game; anything you can do, we can do better.
