Naveen suspends 5 BJD MLAs
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), in turmoil after its candidate's defeat in the Rajya Sabha election, plunged into a crisis yesterday after party chief Naveen Patnaik suspended five prominent MLAs for anti-party activities.

It was billed as a marriage made in heaven, a winning combination that would stop the BJP's juggernaut before Goa's assembly elections scheduled for the end of 1999. BJP's trend of Central teams is unconstitutional, says Gowda
Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda yesterday joined the general Opposition tirade against the BJP government at the Centre for its recent trend of sending teams to assess law and order in the states saying that it undermined and encroached the governors' powers, and was, thereby, unconstitutional. Gowda was all praise for the West Bengal government for not cooperating with the Centre's team.
