Triumphant end to Anand's Bonn voyage
Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand of India gave a brilliant "lightning performance" in a 15-minute tie-breaker to beat world number three Vladimir Kramnik of Russia and claim the fifth Frankfurt Classic chess crown yesterday. Anand, who was in the same situation when he challenged Anatoly Karpov of Russia for the Fide world title in Lausanne earlier this year, came up with inspiring degree of concentration and lightning moves to beat Kramnik.

"Luckless" Spaniards still struggle
Spanish supporters booed and whistled the players off the field after their team were held to a goalless draw by Paraguay in their World Cup Group D match yesterday. Following defeat by Nigeria in the opening game, Spain are left with just one point going into the final group game against Bulgaria on June 24.

Blanco blasts Mexico equaliser
Mexico and Belgium fought out a 2-2 draw in a World Cup Group E match played yesterday in sweltering heat. Marc Wilmots got both Belgium goals, striking either side of the half-time while Alberto Garcia Aspe, with a penalty, and Cuauhtemoc Blanco were on target for Mexico in the second half.
