SP demoted for amassing wealth
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AURANGABAD, JUNE 21: A senior police official of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP), Iswar Piraji Kalapatri, was on Thursday demoted to the rank of deputy superintendent of police, on charges of owning property and cash disproportionate to his known sources of income.Kalapatri was holding charge as Commandant of the State Reserve Police Force in Jalna when he received his papers. He has now been posted to Pune as Assistant Commissioner of Police, which is equivalent to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. His papers were served personally by his successor, SP Vikram Boke, who has also been asked to hold additional charge as commandant. The charges against Kalapatri are being probed by the Anti-Corruption Cell of the police after it conducted a raid on his house in Mumbai in 1990. The police officer, who is nearing retirement, has served in Mumbai for the better part of his career. Action was pending against him as he had approached the Bombay HC, which ruled in his favour and even orderedthe quashing of the First Information Report. The State government, however, appealed to the Supreme Court, which has now struck down the High Court order. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
