Safety drive for women passengers

Western Railway has launched a drive with the help of lady Railway Protection Force constables to stop unauthorised passengers from entering the first class ladies compartments. Police patrolling between Mira Road and Borivli has also been intensified in view of an incident of stone pelting which blinded the eye of a lady commuter recently. The Railway has requested passengers to immediately notify the station masters or the railway police of such incidents.

Concert to aid handicapped

The Have A Heart club is organising a musical concert `Musical Calvacade- II' on June 26 at 7 pm at the St Andrew's Auditorium, Bandra. The proceeds of the function will help in establishing and nurturing the Maurice Concessio Musical Foundation which will impart musical education to the handicapped and underprivileged.

Aid for Gujarat cyclone fund

The port and dock workers have decided to contribute a day's wage to the Gujarat cyclone relief fund. This was decidedat an emergency meeting called by the chairman of the Mumbai Port Trust. The unions have authorised the chairman to deduct a day's wage for the month of June.

Programme for teachers

The department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension will launch an orientation programme for teachers on July 3 at the conference room of the department. This project is open to students studying in the various courses being offered by the under-graduate colleges, post-graduate departments and professional colleges.

Loan for toilets in Ghatkopar

Gurudas Kamat, Member of Parliament, sanctioned a loan of Rs 10 lakh from the MP's fund for the construction of 20 toilets in Parsiwadi at Ghatkopar.

A 40-seater two-storeyed toilet structure in Parsiwadi had collapsed two days ago, seriously injuring eight people. Residents from the area who met Kamat demanded the arrest of the contractor who they claimed was responsible for the crash. Kamat has also demanded the immediate arrest of the contractor.
