CALCUTTA, June 21: The Trinamool Congress (TC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party ``had organised and mobilised large number of anti-socials and set them on the Left Front workers and sympathisers before and after the recent panchayat elections,'' said a Left Front team here today.Interestingly, much like the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, the Left Front team blamed the police and the administration for inaction when ``the Bharatiya Janata Party-Trinamool Congress goons had carried out violent raids.''
The team members said their report which would be submitted to Chief Minister Jyoti Basu and Home (Police) Minister Buddhadeb soon, ``will have a special mention on the role of police in these areas''.
The team, which was split into two groups one for Hooghly and the other for Midnapore districts respectively comprised LF MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The 11-member LF team, which conducted a tour in the two districts, informed the Press that ``both the TC and the BJP created tension and law andorder problem in the State to malign the image of the LF Government.''
When asked why they had visited two districts alone and not other places like Basanti where four Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) workers were killed by CPM cadres, Dr Biplab Dasgupta (CPM) who led the team to Hooghly, said: ``The Basanti issue is taken up by the Chief Minister and other districts were not in our agenda.''
Dr Dasgupta also revealed that they are not submitting the report to the Central Government on grounds that ``the law and order is a State subject.''Dr Dasgupta said the team found countless cases of ``most barbaric torture and atrocities by the BJP-TC workers on the Left Front activists and sympathisers.''
Dr Dasgupta said, ``The BJP-TC goondas armed with sword, choppers, iron roads, firearms and acid bulbs attacked the Communist Party of India (Marxist) supporters and looted several shops in several places in Khanakul.''
``They even forced open the door and beat up whoever was inside,'' Dr Dasguptaalleged, saying that ``the Left Front team in both Hooghly and Midnapore gathered information about police inaction when the Bharatiya Janata Party-Trinamool Congress goons carried their raids and attacks.''The team, which blamed the ``Press for not highlighting atrocities by the Bharatiya Janata Party-Trinamool Congress goons,'' said they would urge the State Government to pay compensation to the victims.
