In the Clinton Cabinet, India has only one friend - Bill
In President Clinton's evanescent Cabinet, where changes are rung in by the month, India has virtually no friends or supporters. Except one. Among the three key principals, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright appears daggers at New Delhi; Defence Secretary William Cohen has never warmed to South Asia; and National Security Adviser Sandy Berger is a trade lawyer whose worldview -- or lack of it -- is scoffed at by foreign policy wonks.

More trouble for Clinton as Lewinsky offers to bare all
Monica Lewinsky, the former White House intern whose alleged affair with President Bill Clinton set off a scandal that threatened to sink the presidency, has offered to testify that she indeed had sex with Clinton. The offer is part of a strategy designed by her new team of lawyers and is part of a deal being negotiated with independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who is investigating Presidential misconduct.

UN approves $300m for Iraqi oil industry
After weeks of controversy, the UN Security Council authorised $300 million in equipment to upgrade Iraq's deteriorating oil industry but the supplies are not expected to reach Baghdad for months. In a unanimous vote, the Council on Friday adopted a resolution that also sought to extend the UN oil-for-food programme for as long as economic sanctions are in effect rather than renegotiate its terms every six months.
