Iran raids leave United States shell-shocked
A brilliant first-half header by midfielder Hamid Estili and a stinging right-foot shot from Mehdi Mahdavikia six minutes from time gave Iran an historic 2-1 World Cup victory over the United States Sunday night. It was the Iranians' first ever win in the World Cup final in the most politically sensitive match of the 1998 tournament.

Steffi Graf has a Gala time at Wimbledon
Fourth-seeded Steffi Graf (Germany), making a comeback after a long, injury-ridden lay-off, beat Gala Leon Sarcia (Spain) 6-4 6-1 in the first round of the Wimbledon Championship yesterday. Sixth-seeded Monica Seles (US) beat Maria Antonia Sanchez Lorenzo (Spain) 6-3 6-4 but Mary Pierce became the first seeded player to crash out of Wimbledon yesterday when she was beaten in straight sets 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 by Elena Tatarkova of the Ukraine.

Zubin Patel clinches record sixth title
After last year's hiccup, because of his own folly, Mumbai's champion two-wheeler ace Zubin Patel expectedly clinched the title for a record sixth time in the 85-km Mitsubishi Monsoon Scotter Rally held around the backwoods of Kamshet near Lonavla. On a cool, cloudy day, the oft-crowned two-wheeler champion went through the gruelling challenge and proved himself once more a cut above the rest to win the event by nearly five minutes.
