Spot Light
This week, all eyes are on Marine Drive. As the monsoon makes its presence felt in the city, the Queen's Necklace finds itself decorated by sea spray. In direct proportion to the fury of the clouds are the waves that hit this promenade. Drivers on the other side of the road also need to keep their car windows closed, lest the water come crashing into their car. But those who choose to walk on the sidewalk, getting wet is part of the fun. Umbrellas are shut and the more brave, attempt to walk on the ledge until the strength of the sea, coming at them, warns them off.Others mill around Mumbai's perennially hot spot to eat hot bhutas, sip garam chai and maybe take a ride on one of the toy Ferris wheels. A favourite with lovers, Marine Drive remains the meeting place right through the rains. In fact, the downpour seems to give them the added curtain of privacy that they so crave. So, if the last time you went to Marine Drive was when you were still a teen-ager, then rip off your tie, take offyour shoes and feel the magic of walking (and singing) barefoot in the rain.
