Congress Inc to get a secretariat for party chief
In keeping with her plans to corporatise the functioning of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi has decided to set up a secretariat, to be called `the office of the Congress president' (CPO), to assist her with her political work. Congress circles are agog with speculation over the implications of the move for power equations within the party as the secretariat is likely to emerge as a rival power centre to the George-Arjun Singh-Fotedar caucus operating at 10, Janpath.

Gujarat Congress to move no-trust motion
The Congress will move a no-confidence motion against the four-month-old Bharatiya Janata Party ministry led by Keshubhai Patel in Gujarat, when the state Assembly begins its budget session on June 29. Disclosing this at a press conference, leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Amarsinh Chaudhary, said the Rashtriya Janata Party would also support the motion.

Basu ready to support Congress-led Govt
The CPI(M) has finally joined in the `BJP Government hatao' chorus with veteran Politburo member and West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu hailing the new front formed by Laloo Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav as a "correct step" towards dislodging the "barbaric BJP-led coalition." "I wouldn't mind a Congress-led Government at the Centre and we'll not oppose such a move," Basu said in an interview to a local daily.
