BJP to blame, says AIADMK chairman

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Chennai, June 26: AIADMK's presidium chairman V R Nedunchezhian has squarely blamed the BJP leadership for the present strains in the ties between the two parties.

Nedunchezhian, in a statement on Thursday, said the 13-page statement by Jayalalitha on Tuesday where she charged the BJP leaders of suffering from `selective amnesia' was only a consequence of the provocative statements issued by the BJP leadership.

``The BJP leadership at Delhi and the party's state unit leaders are to be blamed for all the problems,'' Nedunchezhian said, adding that the BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu ``should have been stopped and should be stopped'' from issuing statements to the media.

It may be recalled that Jayalalitha in her Tuesday statement had flayed the BJP leadership for going back on its `pre-election promise' to dismiss the DMK Government. She had charged Union Home Minister L K Advani of having scant regard for the nation's security.

Nedunchezhian said BJP leaders like all-India general secretary Venkaiah Naiduand vice-president Jana Krishnamoorthy were ``talking to the media as they pleased''. ``Is it fair then that under such circumstances, our leader (Jayalalitha), who heads a party of more than one crore members, should keep mum?'' Nedunchezhian demanded angrily.
