MUMBAI, JUNE 26: The decomposed body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from a hotel room in Matunga this afternoon. However, the police have not been able to ascertain the cause of death.The Matunga police said according to the hotel staff, the woman identifying herself as Pushpa and 45-years-old, checked in at the Swastik Guest House accompanied by a man who gave his name as Venkateshwar, aged 50. The couple claimed they were residents of Gopalpet near Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh.
The staff at the hotel located on Bhandan Kar Road, Matunga, further stated that the couple checked in at around 2 pm on Thursday. Two hours later, the man left the room and did not return.
This afternoon, the bell boy attending to the hotel room informed his manager that a foul smell was coming out the first-floor suite. The staff opened the door with a duplicate key only to find the decomposed body of the woman.
Senior inspector N R Tambvekar stated that the body was badly decomposed.
``The woman must have beenstrangulated,'' he said. Preliminary investigation failed to reveal any clues. While further investigation is on, the police have not arrests so far.
