DoT corporatisation cleared
In a significant move, the Union government on Friday announced its in-principle clearance for corporatisation of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). DoT employees will, however, be given the option to remain in government if they so wished.

SEBI for buyback with safeguards
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has asked the Union government to install adequate safeguards to counter insider trading before allowing buy-back of shares by corporates. "We have already written to the Ministry of Finance and Department of Company Affairs (DCA) on various aspects including the need to have an open and transparent system for buyback," SEBI chairman D R Mehta said yesterday.

East West, WPL face winding up petitions
East West Travels and Trade Links, the largest private air taxi operator and travel agency in the country till a few years ago, is facing a winding up petition in the Mumbai High Court. The petition, accepted for final hearing by the HC, was filed by none other than the company's own registrar, Karvy Consultants.
