In football, as in love, let your instincts lead you
I am bothered by the way football is played these days, ruining the game as spectacle. Unfortunately, players do not think for themselves. If talent is not given full rein, the game becomes predictable and cautious. I say coaches are to blame. In this World Cup, computers and statistics rule, stifling spontaneity in the search for a winning formula.

Viagra gets hotter, raising hope, disdain
From Rio to Beirut to Taipei, Viagra has taken the world by storm by giving renewed hope to millions of men suffering from impotence. But Pfizer's little blue `miracle pill,' available in the United States since March 27, has also been a soft target for late-night comics and, more seriously, has stirred concerns about safety.

Goalie of the year
In a week when life imitated football, it was kind of heartening to realise that although we may not have a football team that qualifies for the World Cup, we are a nation of top-rate goalkeepers. Make no mistake about that. When it comes to defending the side against what looks like an insurmountable attack, goalkeepers of international calibre like Jose Chilavert and Peter Schmeichel just fade into the woodwork when compared to us folk.
