TMC to review co-ordination with Congress
The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) is to meet on Friday to review its co-ordination with the Congress. The meet is likely to rule out any merger with the TNCC. While the TMC has been consistently maintaining that there could be no merger, some TNCC leaders have been insisting that co-ordination may end in a merger.

Defector to spill the beans on Pak's N-plan
The five Pakistani nuclear scientists who have defected to the West have signed a protest letter against Islamabad's India-specific nuclear first strike doctrine. The lone scientist who has made it to the US, Iftikhar Chaudhry Khan, said he was ready to provide detailed information to US officials on Pakistan's nuclear programme, including Chinese assistance in building a reactor that produces plutonium for nuclear weapons.

Pal flays Plan panel; farm policy ready
Union agriculture minister, Som Pal has severely criticised the Planning Commission's target for foodgrains production for 1998-99 at 210 million tonne as "unrealistic and unpragmatic". He alleged that the Planning Commission had not taken into consideration the ground realities while working out the target. The agriculture ministry has, therefore, suggested that the target should be scaled down to 203 million tonne.
