Defector to spill the beans on Pak's N-plan
The five Pakistani nuclear scientists who have defected to the West have signed a protest letter against Islamabad's India-specific nuclear first strike doctrine. The lone scientist who has made it to the US, Iftikhar Chaudhry Khan, said he was ready to provide detailed information to US officials on Pakistan's nuclear programme, including Chinese assistance in building a reactor that produces plutonium for nuclear weapons.

Israel rapped for extension plans
Israel has come under severe criticism in the UN Security Council for its plan to extend the border of Jerusalem, with members of the world body asking the international community to force Tel Aviv to rescind it. More than 40 members participated in yesterday's day-long debate held over objections of the United States. But an Arab sponsored resolution condemning the plan and asking Israel to rescind it was not put to vote at the end of the debate.

HK blues shadow anniversary special
The sun shone brightly in Hong Kong as it entered its second year of Chinese rule, but with the economic storm clouds gathering there was little celebratory mood on the streets. Chinese President Jiang Zemin talked up Hong Kong's future saying the "pearl in the lap of the South China Sea, will shine even brighter".
