India hires Solarz, Dole firms for lobbying
Two heavyweight Washington lobbying firms that count former Presidential candidate Bob Dole and former Congressman Steven Solarz in their rolls have been retained by the Indian Government to meet the new challenges arising from the post-nuclear test scenario. The firm Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand has been appointed as consultants. The government has also simultaneously retained APCO Associates Inc, as consultants.

Delhi Government wants churches struck off list of religious place
Delhi's BJP Government plans to remove churches from the list of places of worship. Excise Minister Rajender Gupta has recommended, in writing, that churches be removed from the list of religious places. His reason: Sacramental wine is distributed there. Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma has endorsed this suggestion. The issue is expected to come up at the Cabinet meeting on Saturday.

Warrant against Mishra, Laloo told to surrender
A special court has asked the Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav to surrender by July 27 and issued arrest warrant against former chief minister Jagannath Mishra after taking cognizance of the charge-sheet in yet another conspiracy case of fodder scam. The designated CBI judge, S K Lal rejected a batch of petitions filed on behalf of Mishra and others accused in the case.

Sheila Kaul, Thungon and others issued summons
Former Union ministers Sheila Kaul and PK Thungon and 62 others have been summoned by Special CBI Judge Ajit Bharihoke in a case relating to out-of-turn allotment of Government shops and stalls. Taking cognizance of the three chargesheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last month, Special Judge Bharihoke has asked the accused to appear in court on August 24, 27 and 31.
