PRISTINA (YUGOSLAVIA), July 8: Intensified fighting between ethnic Albanian militants and Serb forces in Kosovo has put increased pressure on officials from six countries who are meeting today to try to negotiate a solution for the trouble province.Serb forces shelled four villages yesterday near the southern town of Djakovica, ethnic Albanian sources said. Serb sources, meanwhile, said insurgents withdrew from a village near Pec where two policemen were killed recently.
The heightened tensions came a day before the contact group for the Balkans Including Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and the United States are to begin discussions in Bonn, Germany on how to curb fighting between the secessionist Kosovo Liberation Army and Serb security Forces.Yesterday, diplomats were discussing the need for an internationally monitored cease-fire.
