5-year RI for abetting suicide

PUNE, July 8: Additional sessions judge S S Jahagirdar has sentenced Dadu Shelar of Yerwada to five-year rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 500 for abetting the suicide of his wife.Vaishali and Dadu Shelar, had married in 1984. Vaishali had sustained burn injuries on her face and neck in her childhood. Dadu Shelar used to taunt her about her scars, beat her and threatened her that if she did not commit suicide he would stab her.Vaishali set herself ablaze on February 2, 1992. .
