SURAT, July 9: A woman and her daughter succumbed to burn injuries before they could be admitted to the hospital, the Varachha police said.Savitaben Meghani, a resident of the Varachha area, first poured kerosene on her one-and-half-year daughter and set her on fire, before doing the same herself.Savitaben is reported to have resorted to the extreme step following an argument with her brother-in-law Kishore on Wednesday evening. According to the police, Kishore slapped her in a fit of rage and unable to bear the humiliation she took the extreme decision.

It was only around midnight, when her family members seeing smoke coming out of the room, broke open the door and found both the mother and daughter in flames. They were rushed to the hospital but succumbed on the way.
The family members have lodged a case against Savitaben for murdering her daughter as well as killing herself. Interrogation of the family members is on, the Varachha police said.
