Ashok Jain's bail application rejected
Metropolitan magistrate V S Dixit yesterday rejected the bail application of media baron Ashok Kumar Jain and directed that a panel of doctors be appointed to report to the court on his medical condition. Jain, chairman of The Times of India group of newspapers, is in judicial custody till July 15 for alleged FERA violations.

Shoe scam: Daya's son surrenders, gets bail
Sohin Daya, son of former sheriff of Mumbai and main accused in the multi-crore cobbler scam Sadruddin Daya, yesterday surrendered before the Metropolitan Magistrate at the Esplanade Court. He was later released on a bail of Rs 15,000. Sohin had been declared absconding by the Economic Offences Wing since the shoe scam came to light, and was reported to be in London.

Stay sought on Cauvery project
The Tamil Nadu government, on June 30 last, filed a miscellaneous petition before the Cauvery Waters Disputes Tribunal to restrain Karnataka government from going ahead with its 270 MW hydel power project across Cauvery river near Sivasamudhiram, 30 km from the TN border. When the Tribunal begins its sittings, the TN government would seek a hearing and urge appropriate orders.
