Probe Chandraswami's role in Rajiv case -- Jain report
The Justice Milap Chand Jain Commission's nine-volume final report says that the material and circumstantial evidence "raise a serious doubt regarding the involvement of Chandraswami in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi". Justice Jain has called for a further probe into Chandraswami's "complicity and involvement" adding that, there are, of course, gaps and missing links (in evidence).

US lifts sanctions on agro products
The US Senate on Thursday voted overwhelmingly to exempt food exports to Pakistan and India from sanctions that was imposed following the nuclear tests by both the countries. The immediate beneficiaries of the bill will be grain farmers in the US, who sell significant quantities of wheat to Pakistan. President Bill Clinton also indicated that he was looking for a further easing of sanction in other areas.

Mini bill to push through buyback likely
The centre is all set to introduce a short bill in the current parliament session to bring in half-a-dozen new provisions for amendment of the Companies Act, 1956. Sources in the Department of Company Affairs (DCA) said that the bill will permit buyback of shares by corporates, introduction of sweat equity for software companies, and transmission of shares in the event of death of a shareholder. It is further learnt that the government may add eight more restrictions to the existing seven in the buyback clause in order to prevent any misuse of the provision.
