IAF (Palam) surprise Mughals

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, July 10: Indian Air Force (Palam) scored a surprise 1-0 win over former league champions Mughals Sports Club in a group B match of DSA-SAIL Senior Division Football League at the Ambedkar Stadium here today. This was IAF's maiden victory in five matches. They had earlier lost all their four matches. They now have collected three points from five outings while Mughals have five points from as many games.

It was Mughals who were in attacking form but their forwards missed easy scoring chances in the initial stages of the game. The main culprits in forward line were striker Shekhar Khanna and mid-fielder Bapa Naskar who could not avail some easy opportunities that came their way.

On changing ends, Mughals mounted heavy pressure against the Airmen but again their forwards fumbled. Against the run of play, I.A.F's T. Aghihotri headed home off a left-flank cross following Mughals' defender Mohan Nath lapse in the 35th minute.

In another match, favourits Indian Nationals once again dropped two valuable points when they were held to a goalless draw at Ambedkar Stadium. In their earlier encounter, Mughals had snatched a valuable point from Nationals.

In an equal exchange proceedings, Indian Nationals had a slight advantage over their formidable opponents Youngmen Club, but forwards Zahid Ali, Dharmender Kharola and Jaman Singh could not capitalise the chances that came their way.

Nationals have collected 20 points from eight matches while Youngmnen have 17 points from seven. At the Nehru Stadium, Tarun Sangha were held to a 1-1 draw by Hans Club to share equal points.

Hans' Sunder Singh took the lead in the 11th minute while Tarun Sangha's Ananda Das equalised the score in the 59th minute of the game. Tarun Sangha have five points in six matches while Hans have six points out of six matches.
