Sanctions will not hit growth: M M Joshi

MUMBAI, July 11: Union Minister for Human Resources, Science and Technology Dr Murli Manohar Joshi today said the sanctions imposed on the country in the wake of the nuclear tests would not hamper the nation's economic growth.

Addressing the 36th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT here, Joshi said the nuclear tests were necessary to establish the country's credentials and ensure the security of the nation.``This is the time when we have to assert our sovereignty and be masters of our own destiny'', he said.He called upon students to utilise their knowledge for the development of rural areas.
