Focus on cancer prevention, not cure: President
Expressing grave concern over the rising incidence of cancer despite specialised knowledge and expertise available, President K R Narayanan said there is an urgent need to shift focus from curative to preventive medicine. Pointing to the fact that half the estimated nine million cancer patients in the world are in India, he said the number would rise if corrective measures are not taken.

Adamant postmen refuse to budge as stir enters third day
Postal services throughout Maharashtra continued to be badly affected as the strike by postal employees entered the third day following the indefinite nationwide strike by postal employees. Post offices all over the State reported thin attendance and heaps of mail continued to pile up despite the best efforts of a section of staff and Home Guards to maintain the services.

Even as the Central government and five states including Andhra Pradesh are making bids to curb Naxalism, the PWG has asked its cadres to rectify mistakes and mobilise people for an armed struggle.
