CHENNAI, July 12: Chief minister M Karunanidhi, Tamil Maanila Congress chief G K Moopanar and a host of other leaders of the DMK-TMC front besides a few of its prospective allies will participate in the 50th birthday celebrations of MGR ADMK leader S Thirunavukkarasu in Chennai on Monday. The presence of a large array of leaders of the DMK, TMC and CPI besides those from the state units of Janata Dal and CPM at Thirunavukkarasu's birthday bash, hints at a new alignment in the state's political scenario and signals the inclusion of the MGR ADMK in the Front.
During the June 3 public meeting organized to commemorate his platinum jubilee celebrations, Karunanidhi had hinted at forging a new and larger front, including Janata Dal, CPM, MGR ADMK and Puthiya Tamizhagam.
Thirunavukkarasu and K Krishnasamy of Puthiya Tamizhagam were also present at the meeting.
It may be recalled that Thirunavukkarasu had been eager to throw his lot with the DMK-TMC front in the last Lok Sabha elections. But in thesubsequent seat-sharing talks, with the DMK and TMC not ready to part with seats for other parties like the CPM, Janata Dal and the MGR-ADMK, Thirunavukkarasu struck an alliance with the Congress(I). The MGR ADMK contested in four constituencies including Pudukottai.
