DDA told to set up information counters at 64 district parks

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, July 12: Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on Saturday advised the Delhi Development Authority to establish information counters at its 64 district parks in the city. These counters would provide local residents information regarding house allotment and paying of installments.

Speaking at a press meet today, Sahib said, ``Such centres would be computerised and will be open for a few hours every day.'' Also, senior DDA officials have been asked to go on Doordarshan for a weekly update on various issues. He said these and other decisions were taken at his recent meeting with DDA officials. The DDA will also begin work in a fortnight on a memorial park at Wazirabad for the school children who had recently drowned in the Yamuna.

Emphasising that the only problem with DDA was that the demand of houses was much more than the supply, he said, ``In cases where DDA is acquiring land from farmers, it should allot a plot for the farmer on the same land and also give employment to one of the members of his family.''

Praising work of the DDA's horticulture department, he said: ``It is because of some very hardworking and creative gardeners that Delhi is as green as it is today. These gardeners will be rewarded.''

He also instructed DDA to examine how land allotted to nursery schools can be put to some alternative use.``For this DDA officials would have to visit the place and decide. It cannot be done sitting in offices with a plan.'' Before establishing residential colonies, the DDA has been asked to develop the infrastructure so that there is no inconvenience to the residents later on.
