Samata undecided on Women's Bill
The Women's Reservation Bill which will be introduced in Parliament on Monday has put the Samata Party, a partner in the ruling front, in a dilemma. The party is yet to decide whether to vote for or against the Bill if the Government goes ahead without incorporating its demand of reserving part of the quota for other backward castes.

Pawar to launch offensive against BJP-Sena Government
Senior Congress leader Sharad Pawar today urged the party workers to launch an agitation against the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance government in Maharashtra "as its policies have made the life of the people miserable." Pawar, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, said under the alliance government, the law and order situation has deteriorated. Dacoity, murder, extortion and other crimes have become a routine feature under this government and hence all the Congressmen should now join to unseat the alliance from power in the next Assembly elections.

Government may slash Konkan Railway fares
The Konkan Railway is making a loss of over Rs one crore every day, forcing the Railways to consider if slashing the higher fare and freight rates on the new line would help. Though the line was not expected to bring in profits in the first few years, Railway sources say that the returns are even more sluggish than anticipated.

Bill on right to information soon: PM
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee yesterday declared that the Centre would enact a right to information law and asserted his government would never allow freedom of the Press to be stifled. The Prime Minister said that when television and cable became popular, it was feared that these would spell doom for the print media. But the print media had sustained and survived the onslaught.
